Val helps Pollard organise an exhibition and proactively suggests that they need more publicity. Pollard disagrees, warning her that their venture isn't strictly above board, but Val places an advertisement regardless. Ashley becomes so preoccupied trying to set up a drama society that he unwittingly ignores Laurel. He later admits to Zoe that he is desperately trying to make himself indispensable in the hope that the bishop won't send him to another parish
