John Paul Jones

In North Carolina he met a plantation owner named Wylie Jones who, impressed with the young sailor's candor, honesty and knowledge of ships, took him into the family,, When the American Revolution started, he was reluctant to become involved but Wylie Jones convinced him of the worthiness of the cause. Adopting the family name of Jones as his own, he joined the Navy.
