After being asked to leave a convent for taking her devotion too far, a young woman returns to her wealthy family life in Paris, feeling isolated and restless. Drawn to new friendships on the city’s margins, she searches for a way to live with faith in the real world and is pulled toward increasingly dangerous ideas about belief and action.
