In postwar Communist Czechoslovakia, people labeled “bourgeois” are sent to a scrapyard for forced “rehabilitation,” working under strict rules and constant pressure. As they try to hold on to dignity and connection, a tentative romance grows across the yard, even as the system’s absurdity and control intrude on everyday life.
