Set on a northern Italian farm around the turn of the 20th century, several sharecropping families struggle through the seasons under harsh terms. When a young son is encouraged to get an education, his family’s day-to-day life is strained even more, and a broken wooden clog sparks a desperate attempt to keep his future on track.
