On the eve of World War II, a German engineer, his American-born wife, and their three children travel to the Washington, DC area to visit her wealthy mother. Unbeknownst to them all, he is secretly involved with the anti-Nazi resistance, but a suspicious visitor in the house threatens to expose him and force a dangerous choice.
