In late-1800s Amsterdam, a craftsman is forced out as the city changes, while his pharmacist cousin seeks escape after risky, illegal work. Together they devise a plan meant to secure a better life for themselves, their families, and a struggling community promised a future abroad—yet ambition and pride push events toward tragedy.
