Streamline

The Phoenician Scheme checks a lot of boxes for what audiences that appreciate Wes Anderson like; the production design, the shot composition, and the dry humor. But it feels like there’s less room for anything but a cold and calculated performance, room that was given to a similarly strained parental relationship in The Life Aquatic which gives that movie a beating heart at the center of Anderson’s dollhouse dream. I just can’t imagine any emotional stakes in any version of The Phoenician Scheme without those moments. 🪲🪲🪲 / 🪲🪲🪲🪲🪲.
