A four hour foreign language film is a tough sell. However, Edward Yang manages to justify the runtime of the longest movie I have probably ever seen. A Brighter Summer Day is a coming of age story, a portrait of a struggling family and a film about a nation in turmoil all in one. It’s seemingly a very rich depiction of life in Taiwan around 1959, when western influences start creeping their way into the country. Ambitious and different. 🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼 / 🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼.
