‘Is this too miserable of a story to tell?’ is a question posed by a character in the series finale of The Handmaid’s Tale. The response to the loaded question seems to be a defensive answer to fatigued viewers of the series, which often deals with some pretty unpalatable actions, exacerbated by its slow and deliberate pacing. I guess ultimately it is a series worth watching. Elizabeth Moss is one of the best actors working today and Ann Dowd delivers, providing the most interesting character in Aunt Lydia. But there’s no doubt the series overstays its welcome, making its point in its first and strongest season.
