A working-class British woman reinvents herself as a psychic medium and runs seances from her home, aided in secret by her under-employed, asthmatic husband. To boost her credibility, she develops an elaborate plan involving the kidnapping of a wealthy couple’s young daughter so police can be led to “find” the missing girl.
